This is bar none the most beautiful and awe inspiring soundtrack to any game I have ever heard. The only word I could use to sum it up would be "transcendent".
definitely love the sorrow track and the moon world harp guys theme. Wish i could find MIDI files for these songs but gah, the song that plays in bars. and every single bar... definitely a big miss for me. lol i like the Jazz influences, but the Blues?

I've played alot of rpg and games like Skyrim, WoW, final fantasy. The Witcher series and so on... But this game have a special place in my memory. It's something you will never forget, it's legendary and a masterpiece.

While his immense love for music belied a life of deep-seated hate, his impact on video game music and generations of composers is unquestionably profound and appreciated. Dragon Quest VIII brought me into the world of orchestral music and I am grateful to have learned so much since them. Everytime I hear: "Travelling with Wagon" I remember my childhood and how long I took to complete the game. Since then I replayed DQ 8 one more time on PS2 and since like 4 years I replay the game like every year once on PC (Emulator with 4k res the game looks so gooooood) and even though I should't have this nostalgic effect for the game cause I replay it that often I still cry everytime I hear the beginning of the game. My first Dragon quest game (cause it was the first ever released in europe) and I think no game ever can match the open world and story that this game offered.

Also the downgraded graphics hurt the feeling + the replacement for the soundtrack just destroys the whole experience for me. As a new player who never played any DQ game §ds is probably the better game of the two but for me who played and grew up with the original? I can't get over it.

Thank you for putting this amazing soundtrack together! I still remember first discovering this on the 3DS and I brought it up on a family vacation as something to sink some time into if I got a little bored. Long story short, I got completely engulfed by this game...the story, music, character personalities...I couldn't put it down! Now whenever I think of this game I think of the lakes of Maine and playing this game on the dock in the early mornings when the water was still and nature was so quiet. These are the memories I will never forget.
When I played this game I would leave it on while trying to fall asleep so I could let the music play. Such an amazing soundtrack. Sugiyama's legacy will live forever through his music

I had the pleasure of playing this gem in my mid teens (2004-2005). I remember my brother renting this game out and we both instantly fell in love with it's captivating story, beautiful open world scenery and awesome gameplay. We ended up buying it a week later. I've put in 100s of hours into this game. I still have it to this very day but I wish I still had my ps2 😢 Will forever love this game ❤
Rest in God Tier Power, Akira Toriyama. This is game fully changed my views on gaming and how I view art back in 2005 when I just turned 17. This is personally my favourite rpg for my long whimsical adventure fix with beautiful music, fun and awesome monster designs, it branched me out to check out more JRPGs and more Akira Toriyama series to the point I went from a Dragon Ball Z fan to a full on Akira Toriyama fan and fell in love with so many series he worked on or created. Thank you so much for being such an inspiration for so many lovely people in the world, me and everyone seriously miss you

I admit this is the first DQ i remember as my sister bought and played it when I was younger. ..when I got older I played sentenels of the starry sky and loved it! Then i decided to play DQ 11 elusive age which was mind blowingly good. Even with the small amount of games ive tackled this series has a high impact on me. I love "strange world" the most ♡

I remember getting Dragon Quest 11 on the Switch thanks to Hero's inclusion in Smash Ultimate. I enjoyed Fire emblem so I didn't know what I was expecting, but this game was like nothing I had experienced. I went and bought Dragon Quest 8 on my 3ds back in 2020 with the whole pandemic thing going on. I heard that there was only Midi ost in DQ8 compared to the orchestral DQ11 had. So on my hacked 3ds, I modded in a patch that replaced the Midi with orchestra and it was the best decision I ever made. Somehow, every event and step I took, was enhanced thanks to the music. This game had a certain charm. Different from DQ11. While I enjoyed 11, I adored 8. Maybe it's because my character didn't feel like a hero with the sole purpose of banishing evil. He was just chill and was determined to help others from the tyranny that was Dhoulmagus. This game is an actual gem and I hope more people can see that and give this game a chance. I still remember helping that grieving king get over the death of his beloved. It was just a side quest, but man it spoke volumes to how much the developers cared about the world they created.
Dragon Quest feels like an older school of fantasy score (not just in video games). In a good way. I can imagine a lot of these tracks over black and white 1940s film credits. And it has a fairy tale feel that a lot of fantasy today likes to avoid.

I’m biased because I played it at the right time and at the right age but… best jrpg ever made. The fairy tale style, the beautiful graphics (for the time as well as now), the great pacing, the perfect symphonic music, the team members-no B team, only A players (level 5 has demonstrayed a level of mastery here that they never surpassed even with ni no kuni), well developed… what a goddamn awesome, beautiful, poetic, amazing game. I hope we get a ps4/5 remaster with the symphonic music… and no bullshit added

I would do anything for this game to get an HD port to modern consoles with this soundtrack. I remember getting this game on the PS2 and being blown away at the production quality and simple yet deep gameplay system. Still one of the best soundtracks ever in terms of quality, really does sound like something John Williams would compose in his heyday. I did play the 3DS port but it just wasn't the same with the MIDI soundtrack, and while I have played and enjoyed other games in the series, none are close to this one IMO as an entire package. I enjoyed DQ XI on the Switch, but there's just something missing from that game that this one had. You can tell they really went all out to take advantage of the tech at the time and didn't hold back.
a nostalgic game, i remember when i was 7 years old and it was my first game i played on 3ds, yeah i'm a bit of the new generation i didn't touch the game on the ps2 but damn it was clearly a square enix masterclass clearly the best dragon quest in my eyes with crazy osts and a rather difficult and long game frankly thank you again square enix.

I remember getting Dragon Quest 11 on the Switch thanks to Hero's inclusion in Smash Ultimate. I enjoyed Fire emblem so I didn't know what I was expecting, but this game was like nothing I had experienced. I went and bought Dragon Quest 8 on my 3ds back in 2020 with the whole pandemic thing going on. I heard that there was only Midi ost in DQ8 compared to the orchestral DQ11 had. So on my hacked 3ds, I modded in a patch that replaced the Midi with orchestra and it was the best decision I ever made. Somehow, every event and step I took, was enhanced thanks to the music.
This game had a certain charm. Different from DQ11. While I enjoyed 11, I adored 8. Maybe it's because my character didn't feel like a hero with the sole purpose of banishing evil. He was just chill and was determined to help others from the tyranny that was Dhoulmagus. This game is an actual gem and I hope more people can see that and give this game a chance. I still remember helping that grieving king get over the death of his beloved. It was just a side quest, but man it spoke volumes to how much the developers cared about the world they created.
Dragonquest 8 was my first dragonquest, and that game was amazing.

Dragon Quest feels like an older school of fantasy score (not just in video games). In a good way. I can imagine a lot of these tracks over black and white 1940s film credits. And it has a fairy tale feel that a lot of fantasy today likes to avoid.

I’m biased because I played it at the right time and at the right age but… best jrpg ever made. The fairy tale style, the beautiful graphics (for the time as well as now), the great pacing, the perfect symphonic music, the team members-no B team, only A players (level 5 has demonstrayed a level of mastery here that they never surpassed even with ni no kuni), well developed… what a goddamn awesome, beautiful, poetic, amazing game. I hope we get a ps4/5 remaster with the symphonic music… and no bullshit added

I would do anything for this game to get an HD port to modern consoles with this soundtrack. I remember getting this game on the PS2 and being blown away at the production quality and simple yet deep gameplay system. Still one of the best soundtracks ever in terms of quality, really does sound like something John Williams would compose in his heyday.
I did play the 3DS port but it just wasn't the same with the MIDI soundtrack, and while I have played and enjoyed other games in the series, none are close to this one IMO as an entire package. I enjoyed DQ XI on the Switch, but there's just something missing from that game that this one had. You can tell they really went all out to take advantage of the tech at the time and didn't hold back.

a nostalgic game, i remember when i was 7 years old and it was my first game i played on 3ds, yeah i'm a bit of the new generation i didn't touch the game on the ps2 but damn it was clearly a square enix masterclass clearly the best dragon quest in my eyes with crazy osts and a rather difficult and long game frankly thank you again square enix.
